Catching up back home

Last week we headed back to the Midlands to check on things at home. Our neighbours have been keeping an eye on our house and our good friends Laura and Karl popped in regularly to see that everything was fine with the heating so that there were no burst pipes for us to come home to! [Laura and Karl, we are especially grateful to you for all your supervision.]

It was great catching up with family and friends during the week. En route back to our house we visited my Dad and Agnes in Hamilton – staying overnight with them on the 14th. We had a lovely evening with them both as well as Agnes’ son David, his partner Linda and her son Ross. We went for a curry at The Bombay Cottage in Hamilton. This curry house is very popular and justifiably so as the curries are excellent and the staff very friendly. [David, hope you had a happy “special” birthday and glad that you are on the road to recovery.]

We arrived home on Saturday evening (15 January) and having unpacked the car of clothes, and other paraphernalia that we realised over the last couple of months we didn’t actually need on our trip, we were most appreciative of Laura’s delicious veggie chilli that she had made for us. [See what I mean about them being great neighbours!]

On Sunday our friends Neil and Laura (a different Laura!) popped over to see us. We have not seen them for over 3 months but they have been keeping track of our exploits on the website. In the evening we then went out with Laura and Karl for a bite to eat: taking advantage of the 2 for 1 deal at Pizza Express!

During the week Cameron and I did some chores around the house and caught up with other friends. I had a “girls” night out on Wednesday with Paula, Gillian and Pat who finally received their Christmas presents from me! On Thursday we met up with many of our QinetiQ friends and it turned out to be a late night at the Nags Head pub in Malvern. Finally, we had our friends Donna, Jon, Sharon and Kevin over for dinner on Friday. I had been promising to make them dinner for ages so it finally happened.

We had a lovely time catching up with our friends and look forward to our next visit “back home”.
