Christmas lights in Edinburgh

Over the last few days we have retreated down to Edinburgh to take in the buzz as the city’s festive preparations get underway. Prince’s Street Gardens are being transformed with a Christmas Market being set up along with some traditional and colourful fairground attractions. Edinburgh’s official Christmas lights are to be switched on this coming Thursday (25 November). Although we won’t be around to see this spectacle, we are planning on returning to Edinburgh nearer Christmas to meet up with Cameron’s brother David, sister-in-law Barbara, and their family Dowell, Jo, Megan and Lucy.

Over the last few days we have simply taken in the sites, done a bit of shopping, visited Deacon Brodies Pub (twice!) and seen the new Harry Potter film.

One of the great attractions of the city – even at this time of year – is the sheer number of foreign visitors from all parts of the globe. It is just great being out on the streets, or in the pubs and restaurants listening to all of the languages being spoken. Very cosmopolitan.

  1. Neil Fairbairn says:

My Mates Auntie used to own Deacon Brodies (or at least run it for the Brewery). Had a few nights in there for the rugby! You should also try Biddy Mulligans and Finnegan’s Wake (if they’re still there).

  2. Cameron says:

Cheers Neil – for the public house suggestions.
I’ve got a suggestion for you, why don’t we pick a time to rendezvous with you and Laura in Edinburgh and you can show Elaine and me in person!
