The snow chains for our ‘van came the other day. I haven’t had a chance to try them out yet as the ‘van has been “laid-up” at my parents whilst we’ve been staying with them over Christmas. Ironically, in the meantime, the weather has turned a bit milder with day and night-time temperatures hovering a few degrees above freezing. Under these conditions it’s quite amazing how fast the snow recedes. All that is left is the compacted ice and that will take a few days to disappear.
Still, winter is far from over, and tomorrow we’re heading away from the home comforts of Fort William to visit the Cairngorms: notoriously colder and snowier than the west coast. I feel sure that the new snow chains will see some action over the coming months. I’ll keep you informed – as and when.
